A Step-by-Step Guide to Feeling Empowered and Prepared
Your birth experience is uniquely yours. At Bloom & Bond, we believe creating a birth plan is less about controlling every outcome and more about honoring your preferences, values, and voice during one of the most transformative events of your life.
Whether you’re preparing for your first birth or your third, having a plan in place can help reduce fear and increase your confidence.
Step 1: Understand Your Options
Talk with your provider about pain management methods, birthing positions, who can be present, and any hospital or birthing center protocols. Ask questions, take notes, and remember: you get to choose.
Step 2: Identify What Matters to You
What kind of atmosphere helps you feel safe and calm? Who do you want by your side? Are you open to interventions or hoping to avoid them? Write it all down.
Step 3: Keep It Flexible
Birth is unpredictable. Think of your plan as a guide, not a contract. Include a note that you’re open to adjustments if circumstances require it.
Step 4: Include Post-Birth Preferences
From immediate skin-to-skin contact to delayed cord clamping and feeding plans—these moments matter too. Include preferences for the golden hour and newborn care.
